- Growing Zones 8 - 11
Dark Orange joins the Toucan Canna family, adding an intense reddish-orange to the color palette. The colors may be more orange in shade. Toucan Canna Dark Orange will get about 4 feet tall, just the size to serve as a thriller in a pot or as a strong landscape specimen. Large leaves deliver that tropical look so desired in many gardens. Grow in a mixed container or singly in a pot.
Some gardeners plant these at the edges of ponds and in rain gardens. Another benefit: Pollinators, especially hummingbirds, fly all summer long to the flowers as if they were magnets. Canna species are native in North and South America.
Toucan Dark Orange Canna Lily Care
Cannas (C. generalis) are easy to grow, adapting to almost any landscape condition, tolerating dry or moist soil. Grow in full sun to part shade. Cannas are tender tropical plants and in cold climates, the tubers are usually dug, dried, stored for winter and replanted in late spring.
Although deadheading isn’t necessary, removing the spent flowers tidies up the plant. Cannas would not do well grown as a houseplant.
Toucan Dark Orange Canna Lily Spacing
This canna has about a 2-foot spread, but it can easily be planted in a 12-inch or larger container by itself or mixed with other summer annuals. In the ground, plant about 2 feet apart. Rather than planting them in a row, consider staggering them in plots of three to five for a beautiful show.
