Touch of Blush False Sunflower (Heliopsis helianthoides ‘Touch of Blush’) draws the eye with cheerful yellow daisies accented by dark cones. Its green and white variegated foliage, showing pink highlights on new leaves, adds depth to sunny borders. This compact perennial often reaches two feet tall, delivering a charming display from early summer until fall. Its semi-double petals and attractive leaf coloration offer a fresh twist on traditional sunflower-like blooms.

In our experience, this North American native displays sturdy growth that tolerates moderate drought once settled. It has minimal fragrance, yet pollinators find its flower heads appealing and deer usually leave it alone. We’ve noted excellent disease resistance, making this plant a convenient pick for low-maintenance gardens. It adapts well to containers, mixed borders, or mass plantings, and brightens outdoor spaces when placed near patios or walkways.

Touch of Blush False Sunflower Care

Place this perennial in full sun with at least six hours of direct light. It performs best in well-drained, moderately fertile soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Water regularly during the initial growing season to establish healthy roots, then allow the soil to dry partially before watering again. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring to support reliable growth.

Deadheading spent flowers throughout the summer encourages a prolonged display. Prune old stems in late fall or early spring to keep the plant looking neat. A light layer of mulch in colder climates helps protect the root zone from severe temperature swings. For container growth, select pots with proper drainage and insulate them in winter if you live in an area with freezing conditions. Water potted plants more frequently, as containers tend to dry out faster.

Touch of Blush False Sunflower Spacing

Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart to create a seamless border or mass planting. Allow adequate room for single specimens to promote airflow and healthy root development. A container that measures at least 12 inches in diameter provides enough space for a young plant to expand.
