- Below Average Watering Needs
- Mature Height 4-6 inches
Trailing Jade (Senecio jacobsenii) is an easy-care succulent that has thick, rounded leaves. The foliage grows from central stems that eventually lean to the side due to the weight of the foliage. Mature plants have cascading stems, earning this plant the nicknames Trailing Jade, Creeping Jade, and Weeping Jade. Place this plant near the edge of a shelf or in a hanging basket so the foliage will be on display. While this plant resembles the Jade plant, Senecio jacobsenii is not related.
Best Locations For Growing Trailing Jade Succulent
The bold, green leaves of the Trailing Jade Succulent can brighten up any area of a home. Feature this plant in or near a south-facing window. Position the plant up high so the stems can trail, but remain inaccessible to pets. Senecio jacobsenii is not pet-friendly, so consider locating the plant where curious pets cannot come into contact with it.
Trailing Jade Succulent Sunlight Requirements
Trailing Jade plants prefer a bright, sunny location. This plant can handle some direct light but is not a fan of high temperatures that typically accompany bright sunlight. Monitor the foliage for signs of sun damage if placed in direct light, or put the Trailing Jade in bright indirect light or morning light to help it thrive.
Trailing Jade Succulent Care
Trailing Jade naturally maintains a lovely shape; this plant generally does not require pruning. If you want a more bushy plant, pinch new growth from the ends. Removing new growth at the ends will promote branching and create a fuller plant.
Watering Trailing Jade Succulent
Let the soil completely dry out before watering this succulent. This means the soil throughout the container should be dry before giving the plant water. When it is time to water, saturate the soil and allow extra water to run through the drainage holes.
Feeding Trailing Jade Succulent
The Trailing Jade will grow very nicely without fertilizer, but you can support new growth and help this beauty look its best with an annual application of plant food. Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer at the start of the growing season to help the Trailing Jade thrive.
