As its name suggests, David Austen’s fine, almost angelic, English musk rose, “Tranquillity” reflects peace. Clusters of cream-colored buds unfold to reveal full, 100+ petaled rosettes that fade to snow white with time. Offset by furrowed kelly-green foliage, this classic English rose distinguishes itself from others with its elegant petals and fragrance. The fragrance is fruity with hints of sweet ripe apple. Complementing any design scheme with its classic colors and texture, this genteel ornamental will add radiance and depth to landscapes and patios. Blooming from spring until fall, pollinators friends will declare your garden their new home.
With its heritage being traced to species throughout Europe, this rose demonstrates good disease resistance and moderate maintenance requirements. It grows upright and bushy with stems that bend slightly, adding interesting dimension, texture, color, and height to any space from spring until fall. Growing to a maximum height of 3 to 4 feet and spread of 2 to 3 feet, use this shrub in borders, hedges, and containers. Tranquillity Rose is an ideal selection for someone wanting to give their yard that classy English garden feel without having to dedicate lots of time to maintaining it.
Tranquillity Rose Care
Roses generally prefer loamy, moist, well-draining soil that is slightly acidic. If your soil lacks nutrients or drainage, you can mix in some organic compost at planting. Choose a location that not only has the right soil but also gets at least 6 hours of full sun. Plant Tranquility in a hole that is big enough to hold the root ball. Water once or twice a week, at least an inch of water total. A hungry bloomer, this shrub requires feeding once or twice a month with a formula for roses.
Prune crossed, dead, diseased, and/or damaged canes during February/March. Then, cut back the surviving canes by about a third. Cover the root zone with compost/mulch to overwinter.
Tranquillity Rose Spacing
Plant Tranquillity Rose in borders, hedges, and containers. Space shrubs approximately 3 to 4 feet apart. Add other fragrant companion plants such as lavender, rosemary, and sage to create beautiful cut-flower/herb gardens. Arrange rose stems with lime green hydrangea, lavender, baby’s breath, and Sweet Mademoiselle Hybrid Tea blossoms to create classy cottage-style bouquets.
