The Variegated Creeping Fig (Ficus pumila 'Variegata'), also known as the Climbing Fig, is a charming houseplant admired for its small, heart-shaped leaves edged with creamy white margins. This fast-growing vine adds a touch of elegance and texture to any indoor space with its trailing or climbing habit. This plant is perfect for hanging baskets or trained up trellises and walls, and brings a lush, green ambiance to your home. Its easy-care nature and ability to thrive in various light conditions make it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced plant enthusiasts.

Best Locations For Growing Variegated Creeping Fig

The Variegated Creeping Fig thrives in areas with medium to bright indirect light, like living rooms, bedrooms, or bathrooms. It's perfect for hanging baskets placed near windows where its cascading vines can be showcased. You can also train it to climb a small trellis or moss pole, making it a delightful addition to shelves or tabletops. While it's generally safe, the plant's sap can cause mild skin irritation, so it's best to keep it out of reach of pets and children.

Variegated Creeping Fig Sunlight Requirements

This plant prefers medium to bright indirect light. Place it near an east or north-facing window to provide ample light without direct sun exposure, which can scorch the delicate leaves. It can tolerate lower light conditions, but growth may slow, and the variegation may become less pronounced.

Variegated Creeping Fig Care

Plant your Variegated Creeping Fig in a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A peat-based soil with good drainage works well. Keep the plant in a pot with drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. Prune regularly to maintain its shape and encourage bushier growth, especially if you're training it to climb. Repotting every one to two years helps accommodate its growth and keeps the roots healthy.

Watering Variegated Creeping Fig

Maintain consistently moist soil by watering when the top inch feels dry to the touch. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely, as this can cause the plant to drop leaves. Overwatering should also be avoided to prevent root rot. The Variegated Creeping Fig appreciates higher humidity levels; misting the leaves or placing a humidifier nearby can enhance its growth and prevent leaf browning.

Feeding Variegated Creeping Fig

Feed monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength. This provides essential nutrients for vigorous growth and healthy foliage. Reduce feeding in the fall and winter when the plant's growth naturally slows down.

We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
