The Variegated Frydek Alocasia, referred to as the”Green Velvet” plant, is a rare tropical perennial houseplant. It’s known for having long, narrow, heart-shaped leaves that are dark green in color with beautiful contrasting splashes of variegation in pearly white, mint, or yellow. The leaves have noted thick veins in the same contrasting color as the variegation. This plant makes a wonderful statement in the home with its showy variegated leaves.
Best Locations For Growing Variegated Frydek Alocasia
This plant is hardy to zone 11. It can be kept in a container outdoors above 40 degrees F. It prefers bright indirect or filtered sunlight. Indoor temperatures should be in the 65-85 F range. Keep this plant away from direct cool air vents. Placed in a room with bright filtered sunlight, Variegated Frydek Alocasia will thrive with minimal effort. This plant is known to be poisonous to both house pets and children, so please keep this in mind when selecting a space.
Variegated Frydek Alocasia Sunlight Requirements
This alocasia prefers bright filtered sunlight and high humidity. Place the plant between 18-36 inches from the window or door. The leaves can be lightly misted each day if humidity is lower than 60 percent.
Variegated Frydek Alocasia Care
This plant does really well in an amended potting soil that is three equal parts of soil, peat moss, and perlite. To divide the plant, simply remove it from the pot. After removing excess dirt from the roots, identify the rhizomes. Using a sharp gardening knife separate each new rhizome. Then plant each one separately in a pot with amended soil.
Watering Variegated Frydek Alocasia
Best not to put this particular plant on a regular watering schedule. Once the soil is dry from the surface to 1.5 inches deep, then the plant should be watered. Take extra care in not allowing the soil to become too dry or too moist.
Feeding the Variegated Frydek Alocasia
To keep the plant healthy and the colors bright, use a 20-20-20 granular fertilizer mixed with room temperature water and apply every three weeks.
