The Wedding Party® Childhood Sweetheart Lenten Rose is one of the first plants to bloom in the spring, and this Hellebore hybrid starts the growing season off strong. The full flowers have alternating rows of yellow petals with such intense red veining that the petals appear more red than yellow. The reverse side of the petals is an alluring burgundy. The petals surround buttery yellow anthers, and the flowers are surrounded by green foliage with finely serrated edges. This Lenten Rose blooms in early to mid-spring.
Include this charming Lenten Rose in a mixed bed, landscape, or border. Create a stunning mass planting, or enjoy these blooms in a container where they make an excellent filler. Trim the stems to enjoy flowers in an arrangement. The flowers attract bees but are not favored by foragers like deer and rabbits. The Wedding Party® Childhood Sweetheart Lenten Rose can grow in zones 4 through 9, and the northern reaches of that range can have significant snowfall, so plant in an area where snowbanks will not pile up and delay blooming.

Part to full shade is vital for Wedding Party® Childhood Sweetheart Lenten Rose. Plant it alongside a building that will shield the sun or in the shade of an evergreen. This plant craves rich, loamy soil that is moist and well drained. A neutral to slightly alkaline pH is best. Give the plant about an inch of water weekly, depending on rainfall. Established plants are drought tolerant and can handle longer periods between watering. Apply a balanced fertilizer each spring.
Remove spent flowers at the end of the bloom cycle for a neat appearance. Leave the greenery in place until spring, and prune before new growth appears.
