Wilma Goldcrest Lemon Cypress brings a burst of golden-green color and a fresh lemon scent to tight spaces. Naturally narrow and upright, it adds instant vertical interest to borders, entryways, and containers without demanding constant pruning. Bright, cheerful, and tidy all year.
This compact evergreen shines in full sun and well-drained soil. Use one as a living accent in modern pots, line a pair by the front door, or clip lightly for a simple topiary. In cooler months, it also works as a short-term indoor accent near a bright window.
Wilma Goldcrest Lemon Cypress Care
Provide 6–8 hours of direct sun for best color and density; light afternoon shade is helpful in hot-summer regions. Plant in well-drained sandy or loamy soil with pH 6.0–7.5, or use a high-quality potting mix for containers. Water when the top 1–2 inches are dry; soak thoroughly and let excess drain.
Mulch 2–3 inches deep, keeping mulch a few inches from the trunk. Feed in early spring with a slow-release, balanced fertilizer formulated for evergreens; in containers, supplement with a light liquid feed every 6–8 weeks through late summer.
Prune only to snip wayward tips after the spring flush—avoid cutting into old wood. Hardy in Zones 7–10; in colder climates, grow in containers and shelter from hard freezes or bring indoors to a very bright, cool room above 40°F.
Wilma Goldcrest Lemon Cypress Spacing
Specimen: allow 2–3 feet of width and plant 2–3 feet from walls, walks, or steps for airflow and maintenance access. Low hedge or row: space 24–30 inches on center; light tip-pruning once or twice a year maintains a crisp line.
Containers: start with a 12–16 inch diameter pot (at least 12–14 inches deep) with large drainage holes; upsize to 18–20 inches as roots fill. Place outdoor containers in full sun with good air movement; rotate quarterly for even growth. Staking is rarely needed.
