Windermere™ English Shrub Rose produces very full, 80-petaled flowers that begin rich cream with a warm glow, then soften to ivory, giving the shrub a layered, luminous look. The fragrance is medium-strong and fruity with a clear citrus twist that lifts the sweetness. At about 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide, Rosa ‘Aushomer’ stays compact and well-branched, even in warmer climates. We like it near seating areas where the scent can be appreciated without overwhelming the space.
Named after England’s largest lake in the Lake District, Windermere™ carries that same calm, reflective quality in the garden. It reblooms reliably from late spring into fall, often covering itself heavily in the first flush. The rounded habit makes it easy to place in mixed borders, formal rose beds, or large decorative containers. Foliage is healthy and dense, creating a clean backdrop for the pale blooms.
Windermere™ English Shrub Rose Care
Choose a site with full sun or bright partial sun, ensuring at least five hours of direct light daily for consistent bloom. Plant in soil that drains freely yet retains some organic richness, with a slightly acidic pH around 5.5–6.5. After planting, water deeply to settle roots, then maintain even moisture during active growth without allowing the planting area to remain saturated. Apply a balanced rose feed in early spring and follow with a midseason application to support repeat flowering.
In late winter, shorten stems to maintain a rounded framework and remove any weak or inward-facing growth. Through the season, cut spent flowers just above a strong outward leaf to keep new buds forming. Remove any fallen foliage to maintain good garden hygiene. In colder climates, mound mulch at the base after hard frost and pull it back gradually as temperatures warm.
Windermere™ English Shrub Rose Spacing
Space plants about 3 feet apart for a low hedge, or 4–5 feet apart when allowing each shrub to stand alone. For containers, select a pot at least 18–20 inches wide with reliable drainage. Its soft color pairs effortlessly with both cool and warm palettes. Combine with blue larkspur for contrast, tuck in white bellflower for a soft echo, or frame it with dwarf evergreen shrubs to highlight the creamy blooms.
