Yoshino Flowering Cherry Tree brings that first-breath-of-spring moment right to your yard. Clouds of blush-white blossoms open in early spring on a graceful, spreading canopy that looks elegant even when it’s not in bloom. It’s a fast-establishing ornamental that’s easy to love and simple to care for.

Through summer, clean green foliage frames patios and walkways; in fall, the leaves warm to soft gold tones before dropping to reveal a refined branch structure. Plant one as a front-yard focal point or line a drive for a postcard-worthy spring show.

Yoshino Flowering Cherry Tree Care

Give this tree full sun, 6–8 hours daily, and plant in well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (about 6.0–7.5). Water deeply the first two growing seasons: about 1 inch per week, or when the top 2–3 inches of soil are dry; once established, water during prolonged dry spells. Apply a 2–3 inch mulch ring (keep it a few inches off the trunk) to conserve moisture and protect roots. Feed in early spring with a slow-release, balanced tree fertilizer (around 10-10-10) per label rates.

Prune right after flowering to remove crossing or damaged wood and to lightly shape; avoid heavy summer pruning. Hardy in Zones 5–8. In containers or exposed sites in colder Zones 5–6, protect roots from freeze–thaw with extra mulch or a winter wrap.

Yoshino Flowering Cherry Tree Spacing

For a specimen, plant 15–20 feet from buildings and overhead lines to allow a mature 20 ft H × 20 ft W canopy. For informal rows, set trees 15–20 feet on center. Keep at least 6–8 feet back from sidewalks or drive edges to reduce root and branch conflicts.

For large containers, choose a sturdy 24–30 inch diameter, 18–24 inch deep pot with drainage; place 6–10 feet from south or west windows/walls to give the canopy room. Stake young trees only if exposed to strong wind; remove stakes within one year.

Why Grow Yoshino Flowering Cherry Tree?

  • Showstopping spring bloom that blankets branches in blush-white flowers

  • Refined, rounded form that adds four-season structure and curb appeal

  • Low-fuss care with straightforward watering, yearly feeding, and simple post-bloom pruning

  • Wildlife friendly: spring nectar for pollinators and small summer drupes that birds enjoy

  • Grafted for consistent performance; remove any shoots from below the graft to keep the desired canopy
