- 4" Oscillating Spring Steel Blade
- 60" American Ash Handle
- Precision-Sharpened Edges
- Made In The USA
The 4in Stirrup Hoe helps you stay ahead of weeds, making quick work of wide rows without tearing up your soil structure. A thin, machine-sharpened spring steel blade moves in an oscillating fixture, so it slices on both the forward and return stroke while you keep the head skimming just under the surface. That shallow cut severs weed stems where they’re most vulnerable, leaving the root zone of your crops largely undisturbed. We recommend it for vegetable beds, cut flower rows, and any area you can walk a straight line and want clean results fast.
The long 60-inch American ash handle gives you reach and leverage for standing work, and the 1-1/16" diameter feels steady when you’re moving at a quick pace. This hoe is meant to glide, not dig, which is why it excels for frequent maintenance passes. Some assembly is required, and the blade can be replaced if it shows wear.

Product Tips
- Keep the blade just under the surface; deeper strokes bring up new weed seed and slow you down.
- Weed when the top inch of soil is a bit dry so cut weeds desiccate instead of rerooting.
- Use relaxed, even strokes and let the oscillating head maintain the cutting angle for you.
- In tight plantings, work shorter passes and angle the head slightly to avoid nicking stems.
- If cutting starts to feel dull or you’re forcing it, inspect the blade edges and replace the blade when worn.
FAQs
What makes a stirrup hoe different from a standard hoe?
The blade oscillates, so it cuts on both the push and pull stroke. It’s designed to slice shallowly rather than chop and dig.
How to use the 4in Stirrup Hoe?
Stand with the blade flat to the soil and set it about 1/2" to 1" below the surface. Push and pull in smooth strokes so the blade rocks and slices weed stems. Work in overlapping passes, then leave the cut weeds on top to dry out.
Can it handle all soil types?
It will work across many soils, but performance is best when the surface isn’t saturated or packed like concrete. In very hard ground, a light watering or a day after rain helps.
Will I need to replace the blade?
Possibly. The blade can wear faster in sandy or abrasive soils and with frequent use. Replacement blade is 400SBLD.
What warranty comes with it?
It’s backed by A.M. Leonard’s lifetime warranty program.
