Growing Zones
Alexander's White Candytuft is commonly grown as a groundcover, and the unique flowers will certainly catch your attention. The flowers of the Iberis sempervirens have oval-shaped petals and grow in clusters on tall stems with several rows of blooms on each stem. The dark green foliage is the perfect backdrop for the brilliant white flowers.
This perennial maintains a low profile, making it a wonderful groundcover. It will do best near the front of a bed or used to line a walkway so the flowers can be on full display. Plant this stunner at the top of a retaining wall, so it can cascade over the side or grow in a container or hanging basket for a similar effect. Alexander's White Candytuft is a herbaceous perennial that grows in USDA zones 3 through 8.
Alexander's White Candytuft Care
Plant in full sun, and select a spot that receives afternoon shade when grown in a hot climate. Soil should provide good drainage and have an alkaline pH. Water this plant consistently until established, and from then on, only water during a dry period.
Applying a slow-release fertilizer with low-nitrogen and high-phosphorus during the spring will support more prolific blooms. Prune the top one-third of the plant after the flowers are done blooming to maintain a more bushy and compact look. This is a herbaceous perennial, so all growth will die back after the first frost.
Alexander's White Candytuft Spacing
Alexander's White Candytuft is a clump-forming plant with a spreading habit that will grow 6 to 12 inches tall and 6 to 18 inches wide. Grow two plants in a 12-inch pot to create a full, cascading effect, or space plants 8 to 10 inches apart to create a dense planting.
