Mophead Hydrangeas are celebrated for the refined and romantic look they bring to a garden bed. All Summer Beauty Hydrangea represents all the best traits of this species. Gorgeously large and colorful pom-poms bloom non-stop from early summer to late fall, providing flowers for both the garden and arranging. All Summer Beauty exhibits rich and lasting flower color, ranging from deep blue to bright berry depending on the pH of your garden soil.
Maintenance is a breeze with All Summer Beauty. Blooming happens on both old and new wood, ensuring plenty of flowers later in the summer no matter how you prune. Pollinators of all sorts flock to Hydrangeas in full bloom. The deciduous foliage not only makes a great backdrop for early blooming perennials, but also turns brilliant shades of fiery orange and red in the fall, providing additional value in the landscape. Plant All Summer Beauty as a specimen in a smaller garden or plant a whole hedge to delineate property lines or cover an unsightly fence line.
All Summer Beauty Hydrangea Care
Hydrangeas like All Summer Beauty thrive in part sun to part shade and in well-draining but moisture-retentive soil. A rich loamy texture is ideal, although heavier clay and lightweight sandy soils can be amended with annual applications of compost. Hydrangeas need regular watering to produce large blousy flowers and keep their foliage hearty and vibrant. Mulching with fine arborist chips or compost and using drip irrigation or soaker hoses is the easiest way to keep the soil consistently moist. Fertilize with a slow-release fertilizer as new growth emerges in the spring and again at midsummer to support flower bud formation for the following season.
The color of All Summer Beauty Hydrangea flowers depends on the soil pH. Acidic soil (pH 6.5 and below) produces shades of purple and blue flowers. A neutral to alkaline pH (7.0 and above) results in shades of pink and red.
Prune late in the winter to remove any winter-damaged stems or old wood. Deadheading is not necessary through the summer but will help to keep a mounded and upright shape.
All Summer Beauty Hydrangea Spacing
The loosely mounded shape of All Summer Beauty reaches a height and spread of 3-4 feet. Space multiple plants 4 feet apart for a full hedge effect. This Hydrangea also grows well in containers to decorate a porch or patio or elevate the entryway to your home. Use pots that have excellent bottom drainage and at least a 20-inch diameter.
