Rosa Flower Carpet Amber, also known as Amber Flower Carpet Rose, is a gamechanger for groundcover roses. It will be covered in soft red buds by spring, which will open to semi-double amber blossoms that fade to a lovely peach color. The dense mounding foliage provides a dark green backdrop for the flowers, which continue their show until frost. This rose was bred for superior tolerance to heat and humidity, and for high resistance to black spot and mildew, which plague older rose types.
Amber Carpet is compact, reaching 1 -2 feet high, and spreads to approximately 5 feet. The blooms are lightly fragrant. It is deciduous and quite cold hardy to zone 4. These roses look lovely in a mixed border or foundation planting, or try them in patio containers, so their blooms can be more readily admired.
Amber Flower Carpet Rose Care
This rose grows best in full to part sun, with 4 - 5 hours of direct sunlight. Plant it in well-draining soil, rich in organic matter. This carpet rose will grow in clay, sandy, and loam soils and is not particular about pH. Water regularly during the growing season, especially during the hottest parts of the summer. It will become drought tolerant once the roots have established. Feed your rose bush with bone meal, and top dress with high quality compost each spring.
In early spring, cut back the stems by one-third, just above a growth node. Remove stems that are dead, damaged, or crossing. Cut older stems back to the base to encourage new growth and rejuvenate older plants. Make sure to wear thick garden gloves while working with this rose to prevent getting pricked by its thorns. No deadheading is required.
Amber Flower Carpet Rose Spacing
For mass planting, space these roses approximately 5 feet apart to achieve full ground coverage. If space is lacking, try growing an Amber Flower Rose in a large hanging basket, where it can trail over the sides and beautify a front porch or patio.
