- True white flowers!
True white blooms are tough to come by, but stunning annuals like Angelface Cascade White Summer Snapdragon (an Angelonia hybrid) can add a touch of brightness or elegance to a garden bed or container. The snapdragon loves heat and should bloom continuously from spring through summer and into fall.
Gardeners have to do little to get all this pure white blooming power. The plant is drought tolerant a few weeks after planting and requires no deadheading to rebloom. The snapdragon will grow to just over a foot high as an upright annual or cascade nearly 20 inches over a wall or pot edge. It’s also deer resistant, and this versatile annual is a great choice for nearly any landscape spot that gets plenty of sun. Plant it as a low border, a groundcover to contrast with other bedding plants or as both a filler and spiller in a sunny container or hanging basket.
Angelface White Summer Snapdragon Care
Count on your Angelface snapdragon to bloom and thrive when it’s hot. The plant grows well up to the heat of zones 10 and 11. Plant them in spring, after the danger of frost has passed, and let them set roots before they burst into growth when summer days heat up. Water the plants fairly regularly for the first few weeks and then only as needed. Be sure to check plants in pots or hanging baskets, which dry out more quickly and might require more watering than those planted in garden beds. You can fertilize Angelface every so often with a layer of compost of a balanced fertilizer to keep its constant blooming lush.
With full sun, your snapdragon should continue to flower. Cut some of the flower stalks for indoor flower arrangements and enjoy their light scent that resembles grape soda. Although it is an annual, you can try bringing those in pots indoors to a sunny spot to extend their flowering a little longer. The plant is so versatile, though, you probably will want to plant new ones each year in new spots in the landscape.
Angelface White Summer Snapdragon Spacing
For a mass planting effect or as a border around a garden bed, space your Angelface Cascade plants about 10 to 14 inches apart for best effect and plant health. In containers, place the plants toward the center for some height, but let them grow over a portion of the pot’s side. Use these pretty annuals to tie together a container garden by placing one in several pots in a grouping.
