Flower Carpet Roses are the ultimate low maintenance rose. Masses of rose flowers cover the compact, sturdy branches through the late spring all the way to fall. Apple Blossom Flower Carpet® is a double petaled flower that has the sweetest color pink to blend in or contrast with other roses in the garden. Apple Blossom would make the perfect ground cover in a formal rose garden.
Apple Blossom Flower Carpet® Roses not only make a great addition to the Rose garden, they are a tough shrub that will work as erosion control on a slope, fill in that extra sunny spot in a garden where nothing else seems to grow, or fill pots and hanging baskets with long-lasting color. Flower Carpet Roses are tough enough to tolerate harsh seaside conditions. The leaves are semi-evergreen and turn a lovely dark shade of bronze in the fall.
Apple Blossom Flower Carpet® Rose Care
Flower Carpet Roses will tolerate a wider range of growing conditions. Full sun to part shade is fine. Shade later in the day in the hotter zones will help keep the blooms from fading. Well drained soil is great. Watering should be consistent while the plants establish themselves in the first two years. The use of soaker hoses or drip irrigation is best to keep the leaves as dry as possible. Soil pH is not an issue. Anything from slightly acidic to slightly alkaline soil will work.
Fertilizing of this rose is best done at the beginning of the spring as new growth emerges.A well balanced, slow release feed is recommended. Pruning can be done any time of the year to rejuvenate this groundcover. Cutting the shrub down by half is recommended to keep it today and compact. Flower Carpet Roses will regrow from hard pruning quickly and recover by the end of summer easily, sporting new blooms for the fall.
Apple Blossom Flower Carpet® Rose Spacing
Flower Carpet Rose has a compact height of 1-2 feet and a wide spread of 4-5 feet making it perfect for quickly covering a large area. Planting the shrubs at 4 feet, center on center, is recommended. Container planting should be done in a pot with at least a 24 inch diameter.
