The Apple Perfection® Abelia is a stunning shrub that produces pure white blooms that contrast strongly against its glossy green foliage. Botanically called, Abelia hybrid '00-bc-47-7r', Apple Perfection® needs little ongoing care as it naturally keeps its compact shape. Pollinator-friendly flowers develop from the spring onwards. A mature height of 4 to 5 feet makes this abelia a versatile shrub for an array of garden uses.
The Apple Perfection® Abelia is a semi-evergreen, mounding shrub that is suitable for growing in zones 6 to 9. The flowers of Apple Perfection® will be a magnet for bees, butterflies and hummingbirds over the spring and summer months. It demonstrates high deer and pest resistance. This shrub is perfect for growing in a large container as a specimen or for adding color to a border; it also makes a lovely low hedge.
Apple Perfection® Abelia Care
The Apple Perfection® Abelia grows well in full sun to partial shade. It favors average to fertile soil with good drainage and can cope with dry spells once established. Regular irrigation is needed after planting and for the first growing season at least to help it form a good root system. Even though abelias are generally light feeders, a slow-release shrub fertilizer applied in early spring will help give it a boost.
The Apple Perfection® Abelia is best pruned for size and shape in late winter before new growth appears. That being said, any stray or wayward shoots can be cut back as required during the growing season.
Apple Perfection® Abelia Spacing
When fully grown, the Apple Perfection® Abelia can reach a size of 4 to 5 feet tall and wide. Plant shrubs about 3 feet apart for hedging, or wider for a more defined shape.
