Bold blooms with dramatic colors allow the Arizona Sun Blanket Flower to stand out. The 4-inch wide, daisy-like flowers have red and yellow cones and long petals that are red near the center and fade to yellow at the ends. Each flower sits on top of tall, branched stems and is surrounded by medium-green, sword-shaped foliage. The flowers open in early June and hang on throughout the summer.

The Gaillardia 'Arizona Sun' has a full, mounded, upright growth habit. Also known as blanket flower, the Arizona Sun Blanket Flower naturally spreads out, making it an excellent ground cover. This plant grows as a herbaceous perennial in USDA zones 4 through 8 for dependable color year after year. Arizona Sun Blanket Flower thrives in a sunny spot and does well with minimal care.

Arizona Sun Blanket Flower Care

Plant the Arizona Sun Blanket Flower in full sun and well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Keep the soil moist with frequent watering, but avoid soggy conditions. Arizona Sun is not a heavy feeder. This beauty is more apt to bloom in poor-quality soil, so avoid or severely limit how often you apply fertilizer.

This Blanket Flower consistently blooms from spring through summer. Deadheading may promote additional flowering, create a denser plant, and clean up the appearance.

Arizona Sun Blanket Flower Spacing

The Arizona Sun Blanket Flower is a good choice for beds, borders, and ground cover. Established plants spread to 10-12 inches wide, so space plants about 6 to 8 inches apart center to center to create a full look.
