Swaying atop slender stems over grass-like leaves, the flowers of the Armeria Dreameria® Daydream (Armeria pseudarmeria) look more like fluffy Dr. Seussian lollipops than they do heat-tolerant perennials. This long-blooming perennial, also called Thrift or Sea Pink, produces these round clusters of ballet-slipper pink flowers from the spring until mid fall. Growing 10-12 inches tall and wide, Armeria Dreameria® Daydream is a petite mounding plant that does well in hot, sunny gardens, able to continue blooming even in periods of drought.
Deer, pest, and disease resistant, it seems that the only thing Armeria Dreameria® Daydream attracts is pollinators and our attention. Plant Armeria Dreameria® Daydream in a rock garden, use as a border plant, or keep in a container as a filler for a continuous source of color. Armeria Dreameria® Daydream is low maintenance, only requiring the removal of old flowers to allow it to produce more. Armeria is a North America native and naturally adaptable to a wide range of climates and can even be used as a cut flower.
Armeria Dreameria® Daydream Care
Armeria Dreameria® Daydream grows best in full sun and in well-draining soil. To plant, place it in a hole that is twice the width and of equal depth as the root ball. If your soil is heavy with clay, amend it to allow for adequate drainage. Water Armeria Dreameria® Daydream moderately and deeply, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Fertilize Armeria monthly when planted in a garden or bi-weekly in containers to better support flower production.
Armeria Dreameria® Daydream does not require much maintenance. About once a month, remove any faded flowers to allow for the plant to focus on producing more.
Armeria Dreameria® Daydream Spacing
Plant Armeria Dreameria® Daydream 12-14 inches away from other plants to allow it to spread. When creating a mass planting, plant Armeria Dreameria® Daydream a bit closer together to allow for them to fill quickly.
