Echinacea Artisan™ Red Ombre, commonly called Artisan™ Red Ombre Coneflower, is a delightful new hybrid seed Coneflower that you won’t want to miss! In midsummer, the large single flowers feature rich red petals surrounding a golden-brown center. The flowers soften to orange hues and will continue blooming until late fall if spent flowers are removed. Snip a few stems for cut flower arrangements, but don’t forget to leave some dried seed heads to provide food for birds in the winter. This special coneflower was bred for a full, highly branched form.
This is a compact, clumping perennial that will reach 16 – 28 inches tall and 10 – 24 inches wide. The flowers are lightly scented and attract butterflies. This coneflower is extremely cold hardy to zone 4 and drought tolerant. Add it to a sunny perennial border for a hot color block, or try them in containers for a cheerful display on your front porch or patio.
Artisan™ Red Ombre Coneflower Care
This perennial blooms best in full sun, with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight. It prefers fertile, sandy loam, but will tolerate poor, dry soil if given sufficient moisture. Water Artisan™ Red Ombre regularly during the growing season to establish its roots. Mulch new plants with high quality compost to conserve moisture and improve the soil quality.
Remove spent flowers to prolong the blooming period. This plant will die back in winter, but it does not need any special protection from the cold.
Artisan™ Red Ombre Coneflower Spacing
For mass planting, space these plants approximately 2 feet apart, center on center, staggering the rows. If growing in a container, choose a pot with drainage holes and a diameter of at least 16 inches. Place the pot in full sun and water consistently during hot summer months.
