Atlantis Hosta, Hosta 'Atlantis', Funkia, or Plantain Lily is an elegant, herbaceous, shade-loving perennial with long, tapered green leaves with striking, brushed, buttery-yellow borders. The leaves of the Atlantis are thick and textured, and have deep, distinct veins running over the surface. Tall stalks of purple-shaded, trumpet-shaped flowers bloom in mid to late summer over the dense mound of foliage. The Atlantis Hosta stands at a height of 24 to 30 inches and has a wide spread of 48 to 60 inches.
Atlantis Hosta, bred by Plants That Work, is a mounding grower that spreads without division. It has an upright, vigorous form and is a great low-maintenance option in any shady garden. It is deer and rabbit resistant. This variety of Hosta is slug and snail resistant and is a fantastic groundcover option, as its foliage tends to remain close to the ground. The flowers are a great cut flower option in the late summer and attract hummingbirds.
Atlantis Hosta Care
Atlantis Hostas should be planted in rich, organic soil, but can thrive in a wide variety of soil types. They are dormant during the winter, and will collapse until the next growing season. This Hosta prefers to grow in shade, but can tolerate partial sun in areas with cooler summers.
The Atlantis Hosta will keep its color throughout the growing season, without fading. It requires regular watering, but take care not to over water.
Atlantis Hosta Spacing
Atlantis Hostas grow well in containers as single specimens or en masse as borders. They should be planted at least 4 feet apart from center to center. This hosta has a refined, elegant feel with a fine texture and can provide a spot of interest in a woodland or rustic garden. They also grow well in cities and urban areas, and can tolerate some pollution and poor air quality.
