The Autumn Bride Coral Bells or Heuchera villosa is a leafy plant that provides lush greenery to an outdoor space. The lobed leaves have a subtle ruffle for a lovely texture and are a bold lime-chartreuse color. This native plant provides dependable greenery from the spring through the fall. During the fall, the leaves are complemented by white, bell-shaped flowers that grow in clusters. Coral Bells are easy to grow, and established plants require little care. Use this beauty in beds, borders, and mass plantings.
Coral Bells provide consistent color and texture, and the Autumn Bride cultivar has leaves that are larger than most varieties for an even bigger impact. The late-season blooms dress up your outdoor space and provide much-needed nectar for insects at a time when food is not as available. This plant is an herbaceous perennial in USDA zones 3 through 8, making it a hardy plant you can count on year after year.
Autumn Bride Coral Bells Care
Heuchera plants need full shade, so choose a spot with about 4 hours of daily sunlight. Give the plant about one inch of water each week; Coral Bells have a shallow root system, so they cannot draw much water from the depths of the ground. Rich, well-drained soil with a neutral pH is best. Top-dress the soil each spring with organic compost or apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer annually.
The Autumn Bride Coral Bells blooms in the fall, so it can be hard to encourage another flush of flowers, but removing spent flowers can prevent seed formation and keep the plant looking tidy. Leave dead growth in place when the weather turns cold to protect the roots from chilly weather. Remove dead growth in the spring when new growth starts to emerge.
Autumn Bride Coral Bells Spacing
Autumn Bride Coral Bells has a mounded, upright growth habit and reaches 18 to 24 inches tall and 2 to 3 feet wide. Space plants about 12 inches apart to create a dense groundcover or mass planting.
