Autumn Coral Encore Azalea delivers coral-pink flowers with bright fuchsia centers across a dwarf evergreen shrub. The single blooms measure about 2.75 inches wide and appear in spring, followed by repeat flowering through summer and fall when the plant is well sited. Rhododendron 'Conled' grows about 2.5 feet tall and 3 feet wide, making it a natural fit for foundation plantings, low borders, and porch containers. This is a warmer-colored Encore choice, especially useful near brick, stone, and cream-colored siding.
This reblooming azalea was bred for a longer flowering season than traditional spring-only azaleas. The blooms strongly draw butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and other pollinators. Autumn Coral Encore Azalea has glossy dark green foliage that emerges light green in spring and remains evergreen through winter in mild climates. It grows slowly with a compact, mounding to upright habit. Use it in mass plantings, low hedges, mixed garden beds, sunny woodland edges, or container groupings where coral flowers can repeat through the growing season.
Autumn Coral Encore Azalea Care
Plant Autumn Coral Encore Azalea in light shade to full sun, giving it 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight for strong spring bloom and reliable rebloom. Morning sun with afternoon shade is helpful in hot climates or near reflective surfaces. Grow it in rich, well-drained acidic soil with a preferred pH of 5.0 to 6.5.
Water thoroughly after planting and keep the root zone evenly moist through the first growing season. Once established, it becomes more drought tolerant, though summer rebloom is better with consistent moisture during hot dry stretches. Fertilize after the spring bloom with a slow-release azalea or acid-loving plant fertilizer, and make any second feeding before August. Mulch with pine bark or pine straw to protect shallow roots, cool the soil, and support steady moisture.
Prune Autumn Coral Encore Azalea immediately after the spring flowering cycle when shaping is needed. Trim tall or stray shoots back into the body of the shrub and remove damaged branches as they appear. In containers or colder Zone 6b and Zone 7 sites, place the plant where winter wind is limited and protect the pot during hard freezes.
Autumn Coral Encore Azalea Spacing
Space Autumn Coral Encore Azalea 2.5 to 3 feet apart for a low hedge or continuous mass, and 4 to 5 feet apart for open spacing between individual shrubs. Use a container at least 16 inches wide with drainage holes and an acidic potting mix blended for azaleas or rhododendrons. Water container plants more often in warm weather, checking the upper few inches of soil before soaking the pot thoroughly.
For companion designing, pair Autumn Coral Encore Azalea with abelias, nandina, rhododendron, or crape myrtle in beds with good drainage, morning sun, and regular moisture. Phlox and irises can add seasonal flowers nearby while handling bright garden conditions. For containers, use calibrachoa, nemesia, or alyssum around the edge for seasonal color that suits well-drained soil and steady watering.
