The Autumn Majesty® Encore® Azalea will reward you with magnificent blooms all season long in exchange for some very easy care. The semi-double, purple blooms have slightly ruffled petals that stand out against the dark green foliage. Some petals have spots in darker pinkish-purple shades that add an extra dimension to the striking flowers. This plant, also known as Rhododendron ‘Robleza,’ blooms during the spring, and reblooms in the summer and fall. This Azalea grows as a perennial in zones 6 through 9 and will offer blooms year after year.
This plant looks fantastic when used as an accent, in a border, hedge, or along a foundation. It usually grows about 3 feet tall, so it should be used in the middle or back of a bed. Azaleas can be grown as a container plant, allowing them to live in areas outside of their hardy zones. This plant is known to attract birds and butterflies.
Autumn Majesty® Encore® Azalea Plant Care
Plant the Autumn Majesty® Encore® Azalea in full sun to part shade. Ideally, the plant should receive 4 to 6 hours of sunlight to continuously push out beautiful blooms during the warmer months. Soil should be rich, slightly acidic, and promote good drainage. Azaleas have medium water needs. New plants require water 2 to 3 times a week, and established plants need water 1 to 2 times a week. Water when the top few inches of the soil is dry and thoroughly saturate the soil around the plant to develop a strong root system.
Feed this plant in the spring using a balanced, acidic plant fertilizer. A second fertilizer application in early summer will promote more growth and additional blooms. Azaleas are compact and have a naturally rounded growth habit. Remove dead or damaged growth, but pruning is not typically necessary.
Autumn Majesty® Encore® Azalea Plant Spacing
This plant should be about as wide as tall, so expect it to be about 3 feet all around. Plants can be spaced as close as 3 feet to create a hedge-like look of lush greenery and flowers, or space at least 4 feet apart to allow each plant its own area to stand out and display its striking flowers.
