Autumn Sunburst Encore Azalea covers its compact evergreen frame with coral-pink flowers edged in crisp white, creating one of the most distinctive bicolor displays in the Encore® collection. Rhododendron hybrid ‘Roblet’ produces single to semi-double blooms about 2½ inches across, with a heavy spring flush followed by additional flowering through summer and fall. Dark green foliage stays dense around a shrub that matures near 3 feet tall and 3½ feet wide. Our landscape designers recommends placing it along walkways, where the white petal margins can be appreciated at close range.

This reblooming azalea was selected for repeat flowering and a low, well-branched habit that fits easily into smaller landscape spaces. It performs from USDA zones 6a through 10b and flowers best with several hours of direct sun each day. Use it along the front of foundation beds, as a low flowering hedge, in repeated groups around an entry, or as an evergreen accent beside taller shrubs. 

Autumn Sunburst Encore Azalea Care

Grow Autumn Sunburst Encore Azalea in full sun to partial shade, providing about 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight for strong rebloom. Morning sun with afternoon shade is helpful in hot southern climates. Plant in organic-rich, well-drained soil with an acidic pH around 5.0 to 6.0.

Water deeply during the first growing season whenever the upper inch of soil begins to dry, with more frequent checks during prolonged summer heat. Established plants tolerate brief dry periods, though steady moisture supports foliage quality and successive bloom cycles. Feed after the spring flowering period or in early summer with a slow-release fertilizer formulated for azaleas and rhododendrons, and stop fertilizing after August. Apply 2 to 3 inches of pine bark or pine straw over the root zone to protect it from winter temperature swings.

Pruning is seldom necessary, and any shaping should be completed immediately after the main spring bloom. Shorten stray branches back to leafy side shoots and remove dead or damaged stems at their point of origin. Avoid late-season pruning because developing buds become flowers for the following spring display.

Space plants about 3 feet apart on center for a connected hedge or mass planting, and 4 feet apart when each shrub should retain its individual rounded shape. A young plant can grow well in an 18- to 20-inch container filled with an acidic, freely draining potting mix, with moisture checked regularly during warm weather.

Hellebores and fothergilla make compatible landscape companions because they appreciate organic soil, moderate moisture, and some protection from harsh afternoon sun. Begonias are a good seasonal container companion, adding lower flowers around the azalea while thriving under similar filtered-light conditions.
