Bacio del Sole false sunflower offers months of warm, sunlit color without a diva attitude. Heliopsis helianthoides ‘Bacio del Sole’ stays compact and bushy while pumping out daisy blooms in yellow-to-orange tones with darker centers. Expect a clump around 18–24 inches tall and about 20 inches wide, perfect for the front half of a sunny border. The flowers keep coming from early summer into fall, so the plant never has that “one good week” problem. We like it for the places that need reliable cheer through heat, when many perennials pause.

Sturdy stems make it look neat in the garden and also hold up well in a vase, so you can cut freely. Pollinators find it fast—bees and butterflies work it all day—and deer usually pass it by. Once established, it handles dry stretches better than most long-blooming perennials. Use it in drifts for a glowing ribbon of color, mix it into cottage-style beds, or drop one into a container where you want a steady “thriller” that doesn’t quit. It’s an easy way to keep a sunny space looking finished from June through frost.

Bacio del Sole False Sunflower Care

Plant in full sun for the strongest bloom count and the tightest habit. Choose well-drained soil and work in compost if your ground is thin. A pH around 6.0–7.5 is ideal but this false sunflower is not fussy. Water new plantings consistently until roots take hold, then water when the top couple inches of soil dry out. This plant dislikes soggy feet, so avoid low spots that stay wet after storms. To give it a boost, scratch in a small amount of balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring, but don’t overfeed or you’ll get softer growth.

Deadheading isn’t required, but snipping spent flowers keeps it looking sharp and often speeds the next wave. If stems get tall late in the season, a light midsummer pinch-back can encourage a fuller, denser clump. Cut the whole plant back to a few inches after frost, or leave the seedheads up for winter texture and clean up in early spring. Divide every few years if the center starts to thin.

Bacio del Sole False Sunflower Spacing

Space plants about 18–20 inches apart so they spread into a full, flowering mass without crowding. For containers, start with a 12–14 inch pot and use a fast-draining mix to avoid waterlogging. Pair it with blazing star (liatris), lavender, and little bluestem for a low-maintenance planting with texture, fragrance, and a soothing color palette.
