The stately Batik German Bearded Iris or Iris germanica 'Batik' is a natural focal point and a wonderful perennial to include in a landscape. These award-winning flowers bloom from June through July. The unique white variegation almost resembles marbling, and the white streaks provide contrast against the bluish-purple petals. Green foliage anchors the plant and gives it a vertical, architectural shape.
Feature these bearded Irises in borders and mixed beds or create an amazing mass planting. Plant these perennials near a streambed or pond. The flowers add dimension to a mixed container and make stunning cut flowers. These are easy plants to maintain and do not require a chilling period. Grow the Batik German Bearded Iris in zones 3 through 8.
Batik German Bearded Iris Care
Plant Batik German Bearded Iris in full sun in rich, slightly alkaline soil. These plants can handle damp but not soggy conditions, so the soil must be well drained. Established plants only need water during a dry spell. Fertilize in spring before the flowers emerge and again after the flowers fade.
Keep the foliage, but remove the stems when the flowers decline. Divide large plants as necessary immediately after the flowers fade. Trim all growth to ground level in the fall once the foliage dies back.
Batik German Bearded Iris Spacing
Batik German Bearded Iris stands 24 to 30 inches tall and 15 to 18 inches wide. Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart.
