A tough, low growing and heavy bloomer, Beekeeper ™ Bluebeard will attract any and all pollinators in your yard. The brilliant blue flowers bloom for a very long season, all of the way up to the first frosts in fall. The densely branched plants can be used at the front of a planting bed for a lovely border along a walkway or planted en masse as a slightly taller growing ground cover. Either way the brilliant blue of the flowers would make a good contrast to orange colored perennials or as a soothing companion to white and other shades of blue.

This Caryopteris x Clandonensis does well in a wide variety of zones, from 5-9. It is deer resistant, but attracts bees and hummingbirds and does not stop until Fall. Moist, but well drained soil in a full sun situation is ideal for this powerhouse. Pests and Disease are rarely a problem. This plant is native to east Asia and has a nice compact form that does not need much pruning. The lovely lime green colored leaves will bring a fresh splash of color to any garden.

Beekeeper ™ Bluebeard Care

Beekeeper ™  Bluebeard will tolerate a large range of soil texture and pH. Drainage is very important for this sun lover. Fertilizer is rarely needed. In fact the overuse of fertilizer will cause too much leaf and branch growth while forgoing blooms. A regular watering for the first two summers will get this plant off to its growing best.

This hard working shrub is the ultimate in low maintenance after being established in your garden. The only pruning that is required is a quick clean up early in the spring. Cutting back any dead or dying branches along with deadheading any remaining blooms from the previous summer.

Beekeeper ™ Bluebeard Care

Caryopteris x Clandonensis keeps to a small 2 foot by 2 foot size. Spacing is important to keep good air flow around the plants. In the ground the plants should have 24 inches, on center spacing, to allow for good branch formation.
