Growing Zones
This compact evergreen shrub produces delightful red semi-double blossoms with yellow stamens from November through December. It’s a pretty way to add a splash of color into your early winter garden when many plants have gone dormant. The flowers are great for cutting and adding to floral arrangements.
Bella Rouge Camellia is a smaller camellia variety and will only grow to about 4 to 5 feet in height and width. It’s a great choice for small garden spaces. It can be used as an accent plant, added to mixed shrub and perennial gardens or to create a flowering hedge. It can also be grown as a container plant and brought indoors overwinter for those gardeners who live in areas colder than USDA Zone 7a, where it will not survive the cold winter outdoors.
Bella Rouge Camellia Care
Bella Rouge Camellia can be planted in USDA hardiness zones 7 to 9 in full sun to part shade conditions. This shrub is resistant to deer, drought (after established), heat and humidity. It will not tolerate direct afternoon sun or consistently wet soil. This shrub is low to no maintenance and only requires fertilization in the spring if desired.
Bella Rouge Camellia Spacing
Space plants 3.5 to 4 feet apart to create a solid privacy hedge or 8 or more feet apart to leave room between individual specimens.
