The Bellini Strawberry Crape Myrtle is a stunning dwarf variety that is simply covered with red-pink flowers come blooming time. Also known as Lagerstroemia indica 'Strawconbel', this compact shrub grows to around 4 feet tall and produces dark green, glossy leaves and flowers from late spring until late summer. This is a versatile shrub with a number of uses.

Being resistant to deer makes the Bellini Strawberry Crape Myrtle an ideal choice for rural landscapes. A deciduous shrub, the foliage takes on a lovely orange-yellow hue in the fall before dropping in winter. It has great mildew resistance and is suitable for growing in zones down to 6a. Bellini Strawberry is perfect for adding to a border, creating a low hedge or foundation planting, or even growing in a large container.

Bellini Strawberry Crape Myrtle Care

The Bellini Strawberry Crape Myrtle performs best in full sun. It can be slightly fussy about the soil and prefers a rich, moist and well-drained substrate that is slightly acidic. Water frequently until a good root system has developed, after which it can cope with dry spells. Fertilizing in spring will help encourage the best floral display later in the season.

Deadheading the spent blooms can encourage new flowers to develop over the summer. The Bellini Strawberry Crape Myrtle is best pruned in early spring before the leaves appear. Simply trim lightly to shape and remove any dead, damaged or crossing branches.

Bellini Strawberry Crape Myrtle Spacing

In the right conditions, the Bellini Strawberry Crape Myrtle grows to around 4 feet tall and wide. Space each plant around 3 feet apart for hedging or further apart for defined shrubs.
