The Berry Box™ Pyracomeles is an evergreen shrub that offers lovely color and texture all year long. The green foliage is glossy and has a narrow form that gently curls. Tiny, five-petaled flowers bloom in the spring and completely cover the entire shrub. The white flowers have hints of pink near the eye. Around late summer, the flowers give way to pea-sized red berries. The berries are small, but the sheer number creates a dazzling display of wintertime color.
This compact shrub will look amazing near the front of a mixed bed or anchoring a foundation planting. Feature the Berry Box™ Pyracomeles in a container to add color to an entryway, deck, or balcony. Pyracomeles is a hardy shrub that is disease resistant and can handle the summer heat. The Berry Box™ Pyracomeles is also deer resistant, which is impressive for an evergreen shrub. It grows as a perennial in zones 7 through 9.
Berry Box™ Pyracomeles Care
Plant this easy-care bush in full to partial sun. An area that receives 4 to 6 hours of sunlight will provide the best results. The Berry Box™ Pyracomeles can live in average soil and has medium water needs. Consistently water this shrub for the first growing season. Established plants only need water during a dry spell, while container-grown plants need water when the top few inches of soil are dry. Feed this plant using a fertilizer formulated for roses or evergreen shrubs.
This shrub has a natural mounded form but can be trimmed for a more formal look. Prune as needed in the early spring.
Berry Box™ Pyracomeles Spacing
The Berry Box™ Pyracomeles grows 2 to 3.5 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide. Space plants 2 to 3 feet apart to create a hedge.
