Growing Zones
The Berry Poppins® Winterberry Holly is a fantastic option for people wanting to grow winterberry shrubs, but with minimal space. These dwarf shrubs are compact but still produce a great show in the winter once the leaves drop and the berries grow. Birds love the berries but the shrub itself is deer resistant.
Be sure to plant these with Mr. Poppins® Winterberry Holly, which is the male shrub that will pollinate these bushes and ensure berries grow in the winter. These are native to North America, which means that the shrubs are easy to care for, disease resistant, and require minimal water once established.
Berry Poppins Winterberry Holly Holly Care
These bushes can tolerate a wide range of soil conditions from light dry soil to heavy saturated soil.
Pruning Berry Poppins Winterberry Holly is not necessary. For best results and maximum flower and berry production, only trim dead or sick branches. You may cut off branches in the winter for natural decor. But be sure not to prune too many branches, otherwise performance the next year is not impacted.
Because these shrubs are native to North America, very little care and maintenance is required once established. That means you do not need to worry about watering, fertilizing or pruning each year.
Berry Poppins Winterberry Holly Spacing
These bushes should be spaced out 3 to 4 feet apart, center on center. If you wish to grow a low mounding garden border or hedge, plant these 30-36 inches apart, center on center.
Ensure that you plant the male and female shrubs within 50 feet apart for best results and maximum berry production.
