Beyond Midnight Bluebeard is a drought-tolerant ball of deep blue color. Also called Caryopteris x clandonensis, this shrub packs all the benefits of caryopteris plants but with dark green and glossy foliage, brighter blue flowers and a compact growth. The blooms attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds and they last on the shrub from late summer through early fall. Caryopteris shrubs also love heat and sun, so this is an ideal plant for easy care, bright blue color and to bring pollinators to your garden.
The compact Beyond Midnight Bluebeard grows to only about 2.5 feet high and wide in a nice mounded shape. So, you also can place this stunner in the center of a container where its deep blue blooms complement low-growing white or yellow flowers. Or feature one or more of these shrubs in a garden bed near taller plants. They also work well in borders of garden beds or at the corner of a sidewalk, where they really stand out.
Beyond Midnight Bluebeard Care
If you live in zones 5 through 9, you can enjoy Beyond Midnight Bluebeard as a hardy perennial. Just give the plant full sun and plant it in soil that drains well. Once the shrub matures, you will seldom or never have to water it. Care of this caryopteris is easy. Just prune it each spring down to where new leaves are greening up.
Beyond Midnight Bluebeard Spacing
If planting several Beyond Midnight Bluebeard shrubs in a garden bed or border, be sure to space the plants nearly 3 feet apart from one center to another. This gives them plenty of room to reach their mature size.
Interesting Fact - Caryopteris is also known as blue mist spirea even though it isn't remotely related.
