The Blackout Coral Bells or Heuchera is a hardy plant known for its stunning foliage. The lobed leaves have toothed edges and are a deep blackish-purple hue, providing an unexpected burst of drama in a landscape. Lush, glossy leaves grow in a rosette form and gently arch, creating a full, leafy look. Tall flower spikes spring up in June and reveal dainty blooms.

The clump-forming Blackout Coral Bells has a mounded form. Grow this plant in beds and borders, or create a stunning mass planting. The uniquely colored leaves stand out against other plants and hardscaping. Grow the Blackout Coral Bells as a perennial in zones 4 through 8. This perennial will retain its foliage year-round in the warmer reaches of its growing zones.

Blackout Coral Bells Care

This heat-tolerant Coral Bells prefers full sun. Plant Heuchera in moist, well-drained soil with high organic content. Give this plant one inch of water each week during the growing season. Established plants can dry out, but water them regularly over the summer to keep the foliage lush. The Blackout Coral Bells is not a heavy feeder, but appreciates a top-dressing of organic compost in the spring. Alternatively you can apply a balanced, slow-release plant food in the spring.

Trim dead or damaged growth as needed. Coral Bells is easily propagated through division in the spring.

Blackout Coral Bells Spacing

The Blackout Coral Bells is a clump-forming perennial that stands 6 to 10 inches tall and 12 to 14 inches wide. Space plants about 12 inches apart to create a dense, leafy look.
