This shows how the plant is typically used in a container combo — Thriller (tall focal point), Filler (mid-height mass), or Spiller (trailing over the edge).
Tip: match plant habit to the role for the best designs.
Blazin Rose Bloodleaf shows off bold tropical foliage from spring until frost—no blooms required. Iresine hybrid ‘Blazin’ Rose’ shoots up fast to 18–30 inches tall and 16–20 inches wide, stacking glossy burgundy leaves laced with hot pink veins and rose stems. One plant can anchor a big mixed container, and it doesn’t fade into the background the way many dark-leaf fillers do. This plant always draws the most attention in our display pots.
This beauty is not bothered by heat, and it doesn’t need deadheading to look fresh. In sun, the color turns richer; in shade, the color stays clean without scorching. That flexibility makes it easy to place—front porch planters, poolside pots, or a bold ribbon through beds. It also plays nicely with flowering plants because it never takes a day off, even between bloom flushes. If you want drama without extra work, this is the shortcut.
Blazin Rose Bloodleaf Care
Grow Iresine hybrid ‘Blazin’ Rose’ in sun to shade, but aim for morning sun and afternoon shade in hot climates for the best leaf color and the least stress. Use a fertile, well-drained potting mix or garden soil with a pH around 6.0–7.0, and plant at the same depth as the nursery container. Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Feed every two weeks during active growth to keep the foliage dense and brightly colored, especially in containers.
Pinch or trim the tips early in the season to encourage branching and a fuller shape. If it stretches later on, cut it back by up to one-third and it will push new growth quickly.
Blazin Rose Bloodleaf Spacing
Space plants 12–18 inches apart for fast coverage in beds. For containers, start with one plant in a 12–14 inch pot, or use it as the tall filler in a 16–18 inch mixed planter. Pair it with sweet potato vine, fan flower, and wishbone flower to layer bold foliage and long-blooming color in sun to part shade.
