Enjoy the look of a Rhododendron in an area with limited space with the Bloombux® Magenta Rhododendron. Clusters of dark pink buds or calyxes open to reveal light pink flowers from May through June. The trumpet-shaped flowers have a slight ruffle to their petals and pronounced stamens for added drama and visual interest. Ovate green foliage is glossy with brown undersides. New leaves have a magenta margin that gradually fades with time. This shrub is a broadleaf evergreen, so it retains its foliage year-round, providing texture and visual interest even during the winter.
This Rhododendron's bushy and compact form makes a charming hedge or foundation planting. At about three feet tall, the Bloombux® Magenta Rhododendron will define a space without interfering with sight lines. Use this perennial as a focal point in a mixed planting, or grow it in a container to display on a porch or outdoor living space.
Bloombux® Magenta Rhododendron Care
This rhododendron is adaptable and grows well in full sun to partial shade. Plant it in rich, acidic soil that is moist and well drained. Rhododendrons have a shallow root system, and new plants need consistent water for the first growing season. Established plants need water during a dry period, especially as they form next year’s buds in the summer. Fertilize in the spring. Use a balanced fertilizer or test the soil and select a product designed for acidic-loving plants if necessary.
Remove dead or damaged growth at any time. Shape the plant in late spring or early summer after the flowers fade.
Bloombux® Magenta Rhododendron Spacing
The compact form of the Bloombux® Magenta Rhododendron stands up to 3 feet tall and wide. Space shrubs 2 to 3 feet apart when creating an evergreen hedge. One Rhododendron can live in an 18-inch pot.
