Phlox paniculata ‘Blue Paradise’, or more commonly known as Blue Paradise Garden Phlox, features tall, fragrant, showy flowers! It’s a hardy, herbaceous, native perennial that has billowing masses of lavender-blue flowers with deep-green stems and foliage. Blue Paradise Garden Phlox provides a long-blooming summer floral show.
This variety of Phlox is an excellent choice for borders, beds, corners, or containers. It grows to a mature height of 30 to 36 inches tall, and can spread to be 15 to 18 inches wide—just right for middle row planting. The Blue Paradise Phlox blooms are great at attracting pollinators like hummingbirds and butterflies. This plant is tolerant of clay soils as well as deer.
Blue Paradise Garden Phlox Care
Blue Paradise has moderate water needs. It prefers moist, nutrient-rich, well-draining soil. This plant can grow in a wide variety of soil types. It easily adapts to soil containing chalk, clay, and loam. This Phlox is not drought tolerant and will need water during dry spells.
Plant this phlox in an area that gets full sunlight. Blue Paradise prefers full sun for best performance, but also tolerates partial shade. Fertilize in the spring with compost or a balanced fertilizer blend. For pruning this plant, thin out the stems as needed to ensure adequate air circulation between plants. Thinning helps to reduce the risk of powdery mildew.
Blue Paradise Golden Phlox Spacing
Space your Phlox plants about 20 inches apart and thin out as needed. Each Phlox plant requires adequate air circulation around it, so make sure to give them space. This is an excellent border plant and provides an abundance of stunning blooms from July through September!
