Blue Vervain produces narrow, upright spikes adorned with showy lavender blue candelabra-esque flowers. Blooms from mid-summer and lasts for several months. This America Native Plant grows 4-6 feet tall and spread 2-3 feet wide. It is a winter hardy perennial in USDA zones 3-9. It also goes by several names including Verbena hasta, swamp verbena.
It has been used by herbalists for medicinal properties. Blue Vervain is a winner for the nature lover! It will attract wildlife and pollinators including butterflies and the seeds provide a source of food for songbirds. Does well amongst other moisture loving plants.
Blue Vervain Care
Plant in full sun to part shade. Blue Vervain prefers moist soil conditions. Keep soil moist but not soggy. A great addition to wildflower gardens in native wetlands, along bogs, ponds and streams. It also has resistance to deer.

Blue vervain will also spread through horizontal rhizomes. Plant 2-3 feet apart.
