This beautiful, cascading perennial is a vigorous grower with deep blue, 1-inch flowers. This plant’s botanical name is Campanula poscharskyana ‘Camgood’, commonly known as Blue Waterfall or Serbian Bellflower. This plant is a versatile perennial that adds striking texture and bold color to your garden. The foliage is small, toothed, and heart shaped, in shades of bright green. The star-shaped flowers are colored an icy blue with a hint of white in the center. Blooms appear midsummer and can last into the early fall!
One of the great things about the Blue Waterfall Bellflower is that it’s low maintenance. It adapts to many soil conditions and develops drought tolerance over time. Hardy to zone 4, this plant can reach 8 inches tall and 18 inches wide. The Blue Waterfall Bellflower looks amazing as a groundcover, especially under shrub roses. Great for borders, beds, hanging baskets, and containers, this quick-spreading plant cascades and sprawls. Its growth habit is much like a mounding groundcover.
Blue Waterfall Bellflower Care
Blue Waterfall Bellflower isn’t picky about soil types and soil pH; the soil can be neutral, alkaline or acidic. The soil moisture should be anywhere between average to moist. This plant does well in full sun to part shade, and is drought tolerant when established.
To encourage healthy growth and good returns in the summer, prune the Blue Waterfall Bellflower in early spring. Deadheading spent blooms may help to prolong the blooming cycle. It’s a hardy plant that deer and rabbits won’t be attracted to, but many pollinators will be!
Blue Waterfall Bellflower Spacing
Plant your Blue Waterfall Bellflowers about 18 inches apart, so they have room to spread out. This plant provides good texture and form to any garden. Try this beauty in an alpine rock garden, at the front of a border, or massed as a groundcover.
