- Partial Shade to Full Sun (At Least 3 Hours Of Direct Sunlight)
- Mature Height 18 - 24 Inches
- Mature Spread 18 - 24 Inches
- Growing Zones 3 - 8
The leaves of the Bronze Wave Coral Bells are larger than most varieties of Heuchera but still feature a bold burst of color. Each lobed leaf is 6 to 8 inches across and is a dark purplish-bronze color. Tall stems grow near the center of the plant and feature white blooms with hints of pink from May into July.
Plant Coral Bells in beds, borders, mass plantings, or containers. The bold, leafy appearance will introduce unexpected color into a mixed bed, and the fluffy texture will soften up the look of a rock garden. Plant in containers for more flexible placement options. Hummingbirds will feed on the flowers of this easy-care, native plant. Bronze Wave Coral Bells is a hardy perennial in USDA zones 3 through 8.
Bronze Wave Coral Bells Care
Coral Bells are low maintenance plants, and a spot with full sun and rich, moist, but well-drained soil is best. This plant will need one inch of water each week. Support new growth with an application of balanced, slow-release fertilizer during the spring.
The foliage is the main draw of this plant, and some gardeners trim the flower spikes back as soon as they appear to direct more energy into the foliage. It is a matter of preference, but if the flowers are left to bloom, the tall spikes can be removed once the flowers fade. All of the growth can be removed after the first frost. Divide the plant every few years.
Bronze Wave Coral Bells Spacing
The bold, ruffled foliage of the Bronze Wave Coral Bells will grow 18 to 24 inches tall and equally as wide. Plant 1 or 2 Coral Bells plants in a 12- to 14-inch container or space plants in a bed or border 18 to 24 inches apart.
