Garden Phlox are a true Cottage Garden plant. The sweet scent of their flowers on a summer evening is intoxicating. Bubblegum Pink Garden Phlox has all of the qualities you love in this old fashioned favorite. Scent, delicate flowers on long bloom spikes and deep green foliage. The only thing that has been left out is the need for heavy duty staking. That’s right. Bubblegum Pink is a more compact and sturdier variety that rarely needs staking.
Disease resistance is also an important trait for this Phlox. Highly resistant to mildew and fungal diseases. Bees and other pollinators flock to this plant the whole time it is in bloom. That is the whole summer. Deadheading Garden Phlox on a regular basis will help it set more flower buds. The flowers are also long lasting in arrangements.
Bubblegum Pink™ Garden Phlox Care
Bubblegum Pink Garden Phlox blooms best in full sun, but will tolerate shade early in the day or late in the afternoon. Rich, loamy soil is Phlox’s preferred site. An annual mulch of organic compost will help to improve thin soils over time and help them be more moisture retentive. Bubblegum Pink likes to have moist, well drained soil and will need less supplemental watering after it matures. Overhead watering is not recommended. Using soaker hoses or drip irrigation helps to keep water off of the foliage.
Phlox benefit from a mild cutting back early in the summer as the first blooms appear. This technique is called a Chelsea Chop and it encourages more bushy growth that will produce heavier flowering for the rest of the summer. Fertilizing Garden Phlox early in the spring when new growth appears is beneficial.A well balanced, slow release fertilizer is recommended and will support foliage and flowering all season long.
Bubblegum Pink™ Garden Phlox Spacing
Bubblegum Pink is a more compact variety of Garden phlox that is easier to work into a small garden or grow in a container near a deck or patio. The mature height and width is 18-24 inches. Spacing plants at 18 inches on center is recommended.
