The Bubbly Wine™ Weigela or Weigela florida is a compact, mounded shrub, and while this perennial is small in size, it delivers an explosion of color and texture. The branches are loaded with pink bell-shaped flowers during spring. This shrub is still a stunner even after the flowers fade, thanks to the variegated foliage with dark green centers and chartreuse margins.
Plant this deciduous bush in beds or borders, or create a colorful mass planting. Use it to form a lovely hedge along a foundation wall or patio. Pollinators will visit the springtime flowers, but deer usually leave Weigela alone. Grow the Bubbly Wine™ Weigela as a perennial in zones 4 through 8.
Bubbly Wine™ Weigela Care
Weigela needs full to partial sun, so plant this shrub in an area that receives at least 4 to 6 hours of sunlight. Consistently water this plant for the first year, and reduce watering for established plants, watering only when the weather is extremely dry. The soil should be rich and moist but well drained. Feed Weigela using a slow-release fertilizer intended for trees and shrubs each spring.
Remove dead or damaged growth at any time. Prune the Bubbly Wine™ Weigela in the spring after new growth emerges.

The Bubbly Wine™ Weigela will stand 1.5 to 3 feet tall and grow 2 to 3 feet wide. Plant shrubs 2 to 3 feet apart when creating a hedge.
