Feature

The Bug Bat Pitcher Plant makes for a rather unusual carnivorous plant. Also known as Sarracenia 'Bug Bat', this perennial loves the wet and is ideal for bogs. Growing to around 16 inches tall, the Bug Bat Pitcher produces red hooded pitchers with a bright green base. This bog plant is perfect for adding some interest and color.

Being deer resistant, the Bug Bat Pitcher is well suited to growing in a rural location. It is a commonly used bog plant. However, it can also make a striking focal point when grown in a container. This pitcher plant is native to parts of North America and suitable for growing in USDA zones 5 to 9.

Bug Bat Pitcher Plant Care

The Bug Bat Pitcher grows best in full or partial sun. However, as a wetland plant, it requires consistent access to water whether in the ground or a container. When growing in a pot, use an acidic, peat-rich potting mix. No fertilizing is required.

No pruning is required. However, you can remove any brown foliage in early spring to tidy the appearance.

Bug Bat Pitcher Plant Spacing

The Bug Bat Pitcher can grow to 14 to 16 inches tall and 10 to 15 inches wide. A spacing of 12 to 15 inches between plants will allow this plant enough space for air circulation and growth.
