With its golden yellow blooms, the Butter Rum Tickseed will certainly add a bit of cheer to your garden. Botanically known as Coreopsis Permathread™ 'Butter Rum', this Tickseed forms mounds of elegant green foliage up to 18 inches tall. Being sterile, Butter Rum Tickseed won’t self-seed and spread, but will flower for months on end.
Easy to grow and pretty much disease-free, this tickseed is an ideal gift. It is both deer and rabbit resistant, which makes it perfect for either a rural or urban location. Furthermore, it is drought tolerant once established and requires minimal supplemental water. Grow this tickseed in a group at the front of a perennial border or in a large container with other summer bloomers. It is hardy in zones 5 through 8.
Butter Rum Tickseed Care
For the best flowering display, plant Butter Rum Tickseed in free-draining soil in full sun. Regular, deep irrigation is needed after planting; however, minimal irrigation is required once a good root system is formed. Fertilizing is not strictly necessary, but you can apply a general fertilizer in early summer to encourage more flowers.
The Butter Rum Tickseed is wonderfully low maintenance. In the fall, simply cut back the foliage to just above ground level and wait for the new growth to appear in spring. In colder areas, a winter mulch will help protect the roots from the cold.
Butter Rum Tickseed Spacing
When grown in the right spot, the Butter Rum Tickseed can reach 15 to 18 inches tall and 20 to 24 inches wide. Grow this perennial in drifts for best effect, spacing each plant around 2 feet apart.
