Growing Zones
Large, showy flowers make the Candy Kisses Hydrangea a standout in a landscape. The Hydrangea macrophylla 'Firefly' is a prolific bloomer, with flower clusters reaching up to 10 inches wide. The flowers are semi-double, with twice as many petals per flower as other cultivars. Soft yellow flowers have light pink edges. The pink margins are narrow when the flowers first bloom but expand to engulf most of the petals as the flowers mature. Flowers bloom from spring through fall. Ovate leaves are green with dark margins and serrated edges.
The full, rounded form of the Candy Kisses Hydrangea makes this flowering shrub an excellent specimen. Plant several in a row to conceal a foundation wall or elevate the appearance of a walkway or patio. Trim the stems to feature the flowers in arrangements. Pollinators also enjoy the lovely flowers. Grow the Candy Kisses Hydrangea in zones 6 through 11.
Candy Kisses Hydrangea Care
Plant Candy Kisses Hydrangea shrubs in part shade in moist, well-drained soil. The ideal soil will have a high organic content and a neutral pH. New plants need consistent water, while established plants can handle somewhat dry conditions. Water during a dry period to support continued blooming. Apply fertilizer each spring.
The Candy Kisses Hydrangea blooms on new wood, so prune in the fall or late winter before new growth emerges. Remove faded flowers to maintain a neat appearance.
Candy Kisses Hydrangea Spacing
The Candy Kisses Hydrangea stands 4 to 6 feet tall and wide. Space shrubs 4 to 6 feet apart to create a continuous hedge.
