Carissa Holly - Ilex cornuta 'Carissa’ – is a dense, compact shrub ideal for low hedges or mass plantings. The glossy green leaves have one spine at the tip but are sturdy and deer resistant. Though it doesn’t have much of a fruit set, it makes up for it by being low maintenance and drought tolerant upon establishment.
Carissa Holly Care
Plant your Carissa Holly in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Water regularly until established, and supplement during extreme heat. Fertilize if desired in the spring.
Carissa Holly Spacing
If planning on planting an informal hedge or foundational planting, plant the shrubs at least 5 feet apart center-to-center. For a denser hedge, space Carissa Holly 3 to 4 feet on center.
