Growing Zones
Carolina Jessamine, Gelsemium sempervirens, is a flowering evergreen vine with bright yellow, sweetly scented flowers that appear in late winter and spring. This vine grows vigorously, covering a trellis, arbor, fence, or wall. It can also be grown as a ground cover with a yearly cutting. The evergreen foliage is glossy and textured for a lush appearance. Carolina Jessamine works well in containers alone or with other plants. It can tolerate an occasional frost or can be grown indoors during the winter.
Carolina Jessamine Care
Plant in well-drained, rich soil. Water regularly to establish. Carolina Jessamine is drought tolerant once established, but it responds well to regular watering during prolonged dry spells. Fertilize in spring with a slow-release, balanced feed.
To encourage fuller growth, prune tips of the vine after flowering.
Carolina Jessamine Spacing
Space each plant 3 feet apart when planting a ground cover, and 4 to 8 feet apart when used as a vine.
