Perhaps one of the oldest and most widely grown Oriental Lilies, 'Casa Blanca’ is an elegant classic. Botanically called, Lilium orientale 'Casa Blanca’, this tall lily produces the most stunning white flowers with yellow throats. Wonderfully fragrant, the blooms are perfect for cutting to brighten up your home. It grows to around 3 to 4 feet tall.
Blooming in mid-summer, the Casa Blanca Oriental Lily is easy to grow. It is resistant to deer and rabbits and is equally suited to growing in a border or a large container. Casa Blanca is also perfect for a cutting garden. This lily was bred in New Zealand in the 1970s and is still a favorite.
Casa Blanca Oriental Lily Care
Best grown in full sun, Casa Blanca Oriental Lily prefers a fertile and moist, but well-drained soil that is neutral or slightly acidic. Avoid heavy or compacted soils or grow in a container instead. Water regularly to prevent the soil from drying out. Fertilizing in spring with a slow-release granular feed will help support this lily during the season.
Casa Blanca’s stems may need staking in rich soil or shade. Removing the spent blooms will help keep a neat appearance and encourage future flowers. Once the foliage has died back in the fall, you can cut the stems back and remove them. Mulching in the fall will help protect the bulbs from low temperatures.
Casa Blanca Oriental Lily Spacing
The Casa Blanca Oriental Lily can grow to around 3 to 4 feet tall and up to 1 foot wide. Best grown in a group of an odd number, this lily should be spaced around 10 inches apart.
