As easy to care for as it is charming, Catalina® Gilded Grape Wishbone Flower will bring color and light to a shadier part of your garden. The yellow, snapdragon-like flowers have purple centers and wishbone-shaped stamens. Its bountiful and beautiful flowers bloom from planting to frost. The plant grows quickly to 8-16 inches high and trails up to 24 inches. The flowers of this award winner look delicate but are tough enough to stand the heat of summer.
This plant, from the tropical portions of Asia and Africa, has no serious problems with insects or diseases. It resists deer while birds and hummingbirds love it. The plant looks fabulous in combination pots, so use it as a filler in hanging baskets and containers. In the landscape, it makes a stunning groundcover, especially in shady areas.
Catalina® Gilded Grape Wishbone Flower Care
Fertilize or compost flower beds at planting; regularly fertilize containers. Deadheading is not necessary. Water your Torenia often enough to keep the soil around the plant moist, avoiding sogginess. Plant it in soil with average fertility in sun or shade. To grow your Torenia in containers, use a rich, well-draining soil. Catalina® Gilded Grape™ could not be easier to care for.
You may grow this plant as a houseplant. Place it in the indirect but bright light of a north or east facing window. Keep your soil moist, just as you would for your outdoor Torenia.
Catalina® Gilded Grape Wishbone Flower Spacing
A 12-inch container will hold six Torenia or a combination of two Torenia, one Ipomoea, and two impatiens. The Catalina® series of Torenia come in several colors, so try combining different ones, such as Gilded Grape™ with Midnight Blue™. They will make your hanging baskets and containers pop. For mass planting, or adding to the mixed border, space the plants 8-10 inches apart.
