Torenia Catalina Midnight Blue adds snapdragon-like flowers to hanging baskets or the landscape. The unique blooms are stunning in their shape, and the main petals burst forth with true-blue color, something hard to find in the plant world. Gardeners can enjoy these blooms all summer on a mounding/trailing plant that fills with color but needs no regular care.
This award-winning Torenia blooms from right after planting until late fall. The blooms appear on the mounded center that reaches nearly 18 inches high and on 24-inch trailing stems. They feature that deep blue color, plus yellow throats near the center of each bloom. Hummingbirds visit the plant, adding to its charm. Feature this beauty in a hanging basket, windowbox, or anywhere in the landscape.
Catalina Midnight Blue Wishbone Flower Care
Plant your Torenia in sun or shade in average soil or container potting mix. Since the plant is relatively short, but trails, it looks its best when cascading over a pot, basket or wall. In containers, plant one or more around the edges of the container to fill in with a deep blue color before taller plants, especially those with white, orange or yellow flowers. The container can take sun or shade and tolerate heat.
Water your Torenia regularly and apply fertilizer or compost to its garden bed to help ensure top performance. Fertilize container-grown plants every week or two with a balanced fertilizer to replace nutrients lost from potting mix. There is no need to prune or deadhead the plant.
Catalina Midnight Blue Wishbone Flower Spacing
For a mass of blue flowers in a shady area of the landscape, plant several Torenia Catalina Midnight Blues together. Space the plants about 10 to 12 inches apart to allow their mounds to grow.
